Members have been asking for this for years and we are happy to announce the So Cal Freehikers are finally organized! This group will coordinate nude hiking and day trips throughout Southern California for all the local clubs and nudist resorts in the area.

The stumbling block for many years is that a small group of hikers existed in each club but never enough to plan a separate event. By pooling this group of enthusiasts from across the region, So Cal Freehikers can focus on creating some really fun opportunities at places for all those who enjoy hiking without clothes but who are reluctant to do it alone.

The group is being organized by Ken out of Olive Dell in Colton. For starters, many of the hikes will be on land owned by the existing parks: Olive Dell, Glen Eden, and DeAnza, plus an occasional trip to Deep Creek in the San Bernardino Mountains. Ken says he is working to make sure any hikers will get into these nudist parks at a discounted price for the day.

A popular nude hiking trail through the Angeles National Forest above Altadena was burned out in last year’s Station Fire, so we have to wait a few years for the plants and trees to grow back so there is adequate trail coverage. SCNA suggested the Sespe Creek area in Ventura County, and Ken said he would look into it. He also wants to work with the Camping Bares to coordinate some trips with them.

Details for each hike including exact meeting places and times will be emailed to those interested. Anyone who wants to join in the fun should visit the Freehike web site: and contact Ken at 909-264-0047.

July 29, 2010 - The SoCal Freehikers will hike to Cedar Springs, above Idyllwild. Gil will guide this freehike. Please respond to this email if you will attend.

Directions coming from the west:

From Highway 10, take SR 243 to Idyllwild from Banning. Go through Idyllwild and take SR 74 east into Garne Valley (about 10 miles) to Morris Ranch Rd. (The Garner Valley Fire Station is on the corner of Morris Ranch Rd and SR 74.) Turn left and go 3.5 miles to the trailhead which is just about the end of the road, on the right.

If you’d like to carpool, PJ and I will leave at about 7:00 am from the Moreno Valley Home Depot, just off Highway 60 at the Pigeon Pass Exit. (Let me know if you’ll want to meet there so we know to wait.) Here is a Mapquest link to Idyllwild from Moreno Valley: Click Here.
